Celebrity Homes Roundup: 7 Amazing Properties Of The Rich & Famous

November 2015 In Entertaining

Do you ever wonder what life is like for the rich and famous? All those fast cars, designer clothes and exclusive holiday destinations must make life feel pretty good, no? And if that wasn’t enough – the sky is quite literally the limit when it comes to their homes.

Some of these homes are so sprawling, they’ve barely stepped foot in every room. We’re talking private recording studios, bowling alleys, indoor basketball courts, nightclubs… Beyoncé and Jay-Z reportedly even have their own candy room!

To give you an idea of the grand scale these houses can reach, we’ve picked seven of our favourites that we’ve seen this week – currently or previously owned by a celebrity – that will either inspire you to do bigger and better things with your own property, or simply leave you with a bad case of house-envy.

1. Nicole Kidman’s Australian farmhouse

The internet’s property fans went somewhat wild when earlier this year Nicole Kidman opened the doors of her NSW country retreat to Vogue magazine for one of their “73 Questions” videos. You can watch it here. In it you can see glimpses of the actress’s gorgeous Georgian property, which was reportedly built in 1878, including grand piano, gorgeously neutral coloured décor and luxury outhouse.

2. Taylor Swift’s Rhode Island waterfront home

Perhaps most famous because she bought this property following a split from Conor Kennedy (yes, JFK’s great-nephew), earlier this year Taylor Swift put her luxurious Rhode Island mansion back on the market for nearly US$15m. So what does a price tag like that get you? Apart from the glorious, unobstructed sea views, this property also holds seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms and is decked out in a luxurious New England décor.

3. Malcolm Turnbull’s Point Piper mansion

It could be that Malcolm Turnbull is one of the few Prime Ministers who had to downsize when moving into the Lodge at Kirribilli given the vast size of his family home. His Mediterranean style, waterfront property home was built in the 1930s and has retained many of its ornate features including giant wrought iron gates, arched windows and juliet balconies. It also has a swimming pool, boatshed and a private jetty, and Turnbull is reportedly still making renovations.

4. Chris Hemsworth’s luxury Byron Bay property

It’s always nice when an Aussie superstar decides to settle at home rather than in the Hollywood hills and that’s exactly what mega actor Chris Hemsworth did late last year. His mansion, ‘Kooeloah’ on Seven Mile Beach Road in Broken Head, NSW, features a multi-level main house and multiple, separate villas. With eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, a lap pool and their very own lagoon, it’s safe to say that Hemsworth and family probably won’t be rushing back to the States anytime soon.

5. Michael Jordan’s Illinois estate

It may seem astonishing but Michael Jordan is struggling to sell his sprawling Illinois estate and has resorted to filming short videos of the property in order to secure a sale. Who knows why – this nine bedroom, 15 bathroom estate features a gigantic entertaining area, a pool pavilion, putting green and full-sized basketball court. Celebrities… they’re just like us!

6. Ricky Martin’s Bronte rental homebronte house

He may not have owned it, but that doesn’t mean that Ricky Martin forewent luxury when choosing his Australian rental property. While filming The Voice, the superstar stayed in this Bronte mansion giving him and his twin boys ample space to enjoy the Sydney sunshine. With a gym, two swimming pools, four huge living areas and incredible sea views, he probably wasn’t thrilled to hear that the property was sold at auction earlier this year.

7. Mark Wahlberg’s Beverly Hills abode

It’s just gone on the market and Mark Wahlberg’s two acre Beverly Hills home is sure to be snapped up in the not too distant future. He allegedly came up with the concept behind the popular TV show Entourage while living here – perhaps it was the deluxe outdoor features that provided him with inspiration? There’s a two storey gym, a boxing ring, a basketball court, putting green and a swimming pool with a waterfall and slide.
